One Year
Charlie Kirk
This September 10th is one year to the day since Charlie Kirk was killed, at thirty-one, while taking questions from students at a university in Utah. He was a husband to Erika and a father to two small children.
He was eighteen when he founded Turning Point USA, and he spent the years that followed doing something most people avoid: standing in rooms where his convictions were least welcome, and making the case anyway. He invited the hardest questions and answered them in the open.
You do not have to have agreed with every word he said to grieve how he died, or to believe that a country is poorer when disagreement is answered with a bullet. We will pray for his wife and his children, and we will ask God to keep us the kind of people who argue with words.
Why We Gather
Some things should not be carried alone, and some things should not be allowed to fade. On the eve of September 11th we will stand together at the flagpole, light candles against the dark, and remember.
We will remember Charlie. We will remember the thousands lost on that September morning, the families who never stopped grieving them, and the firefighters and officers who ran up the stairs while everyone else was running down.
There will be prayer. There will be worship. And there will be quiet — the kind that is hard to find alone and easier to bear in company. Whatever you are carrying into that evening, you will not be the only one carrying it.
“The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
John 1:5
All Are Welcome
You do not need to belong to any particular church, or to us, to stand at that flagpole. Bring your family. Bring your neighbour. Bring a candle if you have one — we will have spares.
Leave your email and we will send a reminder before the evening, along with anything else you need to know.
